Vol. 265 No. 14

Ceistéanna—Questions Oral Answers - Wicklow Street Widening.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction a loan for the widening of the street in Wicklow town known as The Mall, which was referred to his Department by Wicklow Urban District Council.

An application was received from Wicklow Urban District Council for a grant, not a loan, for this work. Wicklow County Council have responsibility for the road in question. A sum of £150,830 has been allocated from the Road Fund to the county council towards the cost of works on roads other than the national roads during 1973-74, and the council may itself decide what particular works, within the ambit of the allocation, they will carry out with the aid of this sum. Accordingly, the council can now decide without any specific sanction from me whether to undertake the scheme in question and the extent to which they will utilise for the purpose grant moneys already allocated.
