Vol. 265 No. 14

Written Answers. - OPW Maintenance Yard.

204.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider transferring the Office of Public Works maintenance yard at Inchicore, Dublin to Trim, County Meath.

Dublin is considered the best centre for the central engineering workshops because of the availability there of the necessary skilled workmen and facilities for the transport of spare parts etc. to the various Office of Public Works and other centres throughout the country. Furthermore Dublin is the distribution centre for the plant and machinery required at those centres. Accordingly the transfer of the workshops from Dublin would not be justified. I might add that there is at present at Trim a workshop and stores for the routine maintenance and minor overhaul of the machinery on the Boyne drainage scheme.
