asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has in mind for the development of Muckross Estate, Killarney which was acquired by the State in 1972.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Estate Development.
Mr. Kenny
I presume the property the Deputy has in mind is the portion of the Grosvenor or Kenmare estate which was acquired by the Commissioners of Public Works on behalf of the State in 1972.
It is intended to manage this property together with the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park as a National Park, and any plans under consideration have that end in view.
Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether any definite plans are being prepared, or have been prepared, by the Office of Public Works for the development of this estate?
Mr. Kenny
No. The very same plans will be implemented as are being carried out now in the present park.
No plans have been prepared for the additional portion?
Mr. Kenny
Not as far as I know. From the information I have available there are no supplementary plans but the plans of the former Bourn Vincent Memorial Park will be implemented in the new addition.
I am sure that the Parliamentary Secretary is aware that the plans which were prepared for the former portion of the National Park do not apply to the new territory.
Mr. Kenny
The very same plans will be implemented as are now being implemented in the present park. This is only an addition to the park.
Is it envisaged that more men will be employed?
Mr. Kenny
It must because the same number of men cannot cover a greater amount of ground.
I can take it then that more men will be employed.
Mr. Kenny
Probably, unless the present complement of labour does twice the amount of work.
