Vol. 266 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Firm.

11.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement in relation to the present position of a firm (name supplied) in County Laois; and if the receiver has so far been able to finalise a take-over arrangement.

Mr. R. Burke

The firm to which the Deputy refers has been in receivership since November, 1972, and since then has been engaged in the completion of orders which had been booked before the receiver was appointed. The continuance of the mill's operation since the receiver's appointment has been possible only because of the provision of assistance from my Department to make good the operating losses involved. As to the second part of the question, a number of proposals have been put to the IDA in relation to the future use of the mill premises and plant. One of these relates to the provision of a new industry on which I understand negotiations are continuing. At this stage I do not think it would be proper for me to comment further on the matter.
