Vol. 266 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Raids.

27.

asked the Minister for Justice in view of the recent outbreak of raids on post offices throughout the city and county of Dublin and elsewhere, the extra measures he intends taking to prevent further raids of this nature; and the protective measures in operation to ensure the safety of employees.

The extent of protection to be provided for post offices by the Garda is a matter for determination by the Commissioner, Garda Síochána, from time to time in the light of all the circumstances. Details of protection, whether of persons or of premises must, in the interests of security, be treated as confidential. I may say, however, that there is close and continuing contact between the Garda Síochána and representatives of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs in relation to this matter.
