Vol. 266 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

5.

asked the Minister for Education the future plans his Department have for the provision of primary schools in the parish of Belgooley, County Cork; and the effect such plans will have on the three existing schools in the parish.

Mr. R. Burke

It is proposed to erect a new central school at Belgooley to replace the existing Belgooley, Ballymartle and Ballingarry schools.

Arrangements for the erection of the new school will be proceeded with as soon as a suitable site is offered by the reverend manager.

I am afraid that reply cannot be accepted by the House as being adequate. It was impossible to hear it.

Tell your own Members to stay quiet.

Tá ceist agam.

We cannot debate Dún Chaoin today. Does Deputy Fitzgerald want to put a supplementary?

I wish to have the answer repeated.

Ba mhaith liom ceist a chur ar an Aire.

Ní féidir leat anois. I have passed on to Question No. 5.

Chuir mé in iúil duit gur theastaigh uaim ceist a chur ar an Aire.

Tá Ceist a 5 freagartha anois.

Tá tú ag déanamh praiseach ceart den Dáil. Sin é an rud atá á dhéanamh agat.

The translation system is not working.

I am sorry about that, Deputy.

Is the Minister aware of the already overcrowded conditions in the school in Ballymartle? Some of the students are housed in another building across the way, a building that has been regarded as dangerous. Will he treat the matter as urgent?

Mr. R. Burke

I am aware of what the Deputy says. The Department have been in correspondence with the present and the previous manager regarding the provision of a suitable site since 1966 but, to date, a suitable site has not been offered. As soon as a suitable site is offered arrangements, plans, and so on, for the erection of a school will proceed.
