Vol. 267 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 (Votes 34 and 35).

With your permission, Sir, I should like to raise the matter of Question No. 100 on the Order Paper of last Thursday on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I should like to ask the Taoiseach whether he would be willing to make a statement in the Dáil on his meeting with the British Prime Minister yesterday and, if so, when it is likely he will do so—say tomorrow after Question Time?

I will certainly consider that. That might be an appropriate time to do it.

Would the Taoiseach indicate in advance whether he will do it tomorrow?

Perhaps the Deputy might consider that it has not always been the practice to make a statement immediately but I will consider the form of it between now and tomorrow.

The practice has been that Deputies in the former Opposition put questions down far in advance of the departure of the Taoiseach to a particular meeting in anticipation of his arriving there in the first instance and getting back safely. I hesitated to do that and that is the reason for my asking this question at this stage.

Before you could do it we had to try to anticipate what the Taoiseach might say after coming back.

I would like to say bon voyage without anticipating a safe departure and return.

The Deputy was pretty good at answering.
