Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economic Committees Functions.

120.

asked the Minister for Finance if Ireland is participating in the EEC on the co-ordinating group for short-term economic policies and the Short-Term Economic Committee; and, if so, if he will explain the function of these committees.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In regard to the second part of the question, the Co-ordinating Group for Short-Term Economic and Financial Policies was set up pursuant to a Council Resolution of the 21st March, 1972, to ensure the co-ordination of these policies in the context of the guidelines established by the Council of the EEC. The function of the Short-Term Economic Policy Committee, which was set up by a Council Decision of the 9th March, 1960, is to provide a forum for consultation between the member states and the Commission of the EEC on policy relating to current economic trends. The committee advises and assists the Commission in the formulation of short-term economic policy proposals to be put before the Council.
