Vol. 267 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Electricity Supply Application.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power why the application of a person (name supplied) in County Waterford for a supply of electricity was refused on the grounds that the closing date had passed whereas it had been established that the person in question called to the district office on the closing date.

I am informed by the ESB that the person in question lives in an area which was scheduled for closing to applications for subsidised electricity supply under the rural electrification scheme on 31st May, 1972. Terms for supply were quoted on 15th May, 1972, to the householder who was informed that a reply was required by 24th May, 1972. On 16th June, 1972, a reply was received by the board stating that the terms quoted were too expensive and on the 7th July, 1972, the board issued a letter stating that the terms could not be altered. The board have also informed me that the person concerned called to their Clonmel office on 31st May, 1973, that is, 12 months after the closing date regarding electricity supply to her premises and that a letter which issued on 13th June, 1973, stated incorrectly, due to a typing error, that the area in question was scheduled for closing on 31st May, 1973, instead of 1972, and that, therefore, her application was late. The board are now writing to the householder concerned correcting the typographical error in their letter of 13th June 1973.
