asked the Minister for Education the number of prefabricated temporary school units which it is expected will be in use at all the post-primary schools in County Donegal at the beginning of the new school year in September, 1973.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Schools.
Mr. R. Burke
It is expected that there will be about 86 temporary prefabricated classrooms in use at all the post-primary schools in County Donegal at the beginning of the new school year in September, 1973.
Could I ask the Minister whether he has taken note of the very high percentage of total classroom accommodation that this indicates and whether he believes that such a high incidence of prefabricated buildings is a good thing, and has he any plans to change this pattern?
Mr. R. Burke
Of the 86 prefabricated classrooms mentioned in the reply, only four refer to the year 1973-74, so that the remainder of 82 refers to previous buildings. I agree with the Deputy it is desirable to have permanent classroom accommodation, and I shall do everything in my power to see that prefabricated classrooms are replaced by permanent structures with all possible speed.
