asked the Minister for Social Welfare if there are any restrictions on the use of cheap EEC butter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Butter Scheme.
79.
It is assumed that the question relates to butter which is being made available under the EEC subsidy scheme to recipients of social assistance. The scheme is operated under a decision of the EEC Commission which lays down the conditions of operation and imposes certain restrictions, chiefly relating to the categories of persons covered, the amount of the subsidy and the maximum quantity which each recipient may purchase. Full particulars of the scheme have recently been announced in the Press. I would like to make it clear that the butter sold under the scheme is ordinary commercial butter and no question of disposing of surplus butter stocks purchased by EEC intervention agencies arises in this context.
