Vol. 267 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

96.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work is likely to commence on Belmullet regional water scheme, County Mayo.

The proposal currently being mooted is only at tentative planning stage. I cannot say, therefore, when work would be likely to commence.

97.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the Carolina group water scheme, Buncrana, County Donegal.

My Department have asked Donegal County Council if they would be prepared to make a special contribution to the cost of complying with the council's design requirements for this scheme as it appears that the consequent cost would otherwise be beyond the resources of the group.

It would be open to the county council to finance such a contribution by way of loan, annual loan charges on which would be eligible for a State subsidy of 60 per cent.

Mrs. Hogan O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the water and sewerage scheme for Mountshannon, County Clare.

99.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to sanction the water supply scheme in Mountshannon, County Clare, and the sewerage schemes in (a) Mountshannon and (b) Feakle, County Clare.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to answer Questions Nos. 98 and 99 together.

There are no proposals before my Department regarding Mountshannon water supply.

With regard to the proposed sewerage schemes for Mountshannon and Feakle, I have recently requested the local authority to update their proposals for both these schemes so that their further planning can proceed.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will sanction the tender for the Cranford, County Donegal, water supply scheme which has been with his Department for some time.

I approved the acceptance of tenders for both civil works and filtration plant for this scheme on the 2nd July. They have only been in for about two weeks.

I do not think that is the position.

Revised contract documents for the Cranford water supply scheme were approved on 14th February, 1972. Tenders for civil works and for filtration plant contracts were received by the Department on 17th January and 21 May, 1973. Approval of acceptance of tenders for both contracts were issued on 2nd July, 1973. I see now that one of them was in for quite some time, and the other was in for five weeks.
