The total amount paid into the fund was £145,000. No interest is payable on this money.
The Act provides that the money realised is to be kept in a special fund to be disposed of in accordance with an Act of the Oireachtas. No decision has yet been made as to the disposal of the fund. I am considering proposals in relation to this fund and I hope to submit my recommendation in the matter to the Government at an early date.
Would the Minister bear in mind the suggestion I made, that such money should be used for the study and treatment of the disease of alcoholism, in view of where the money originally emanated from?
This would seem to be an appropriate suggestion having regard to the source of the money and it is being borne in mind.
