Vol. 267 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Hospital Accommodation.

41.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the category of persons entitled to admission to St. Columbanus Home, Killarney, County Kerry; and whether it is proposed to provide additional accommodation in the hospital to eliminate the waiting list for admission.

Normally, patients who are eligible for services under the Health Acts and who require longstay institutional treatment are entitled to admission to this home.

There are 20 women and eight men on the waiting list of this 272 bed home at present which cannot be regarded as unduly high. I can assure the Deputy that any patient requiring admission urgently is catered for. The waiting list will be reduced shortly when eight beds which are out of commission at present, due to a minor improvement scheme, will become available again.
