Vol. 267 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loss of Working Days.

78.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of working days lost last year due to (1) influenza, (2) psychiatric illness, (3) rheumatism and arthritis and (4) gastro-intestinal disease.

Statistics kept in my Department are in respect of periods for which disability benefit has been paid to insured persons and the latest figures available are those for the 1971 benefit year. In that year 255,671 days were lost due to influenza, 1,852,160 days due to mental, psychoneurotic and personality disorders, 2,058,014 days due to rheumatism and arthritis and 1,474,072 days due to diseases of the digestive system. Figures are not available under the precise headings specified in the question.
