Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - NBA Schemes.

105.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a scheme of houses built by the National Building Agency at Mayfield and the Glen, Cork, have not been properly finished; and, if so, whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.

I am aware that there have been complaints of defects in these houses, principally arising from condensation. I am informed by the National Building Agency that their architect has certified that these schemes have been completed to his satisfaction, subject to some remedial work on painting, which is now being done by the contractors, and to defects arising out of condensation being effectively and permanently eliminated. At my request, the agency have commissioned a special investigation and report from a leading expert in this field to make certain that the condensation problem is solved quickly. His report is expected towards the end of this month. The Deputy may be assured of my personal interest in seeing that any defects in these houses are put right as quickly as it is possible to have this done.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement regarding the National Building Agency flats in Tallaght, County Dublin.

These flats, which are being provided by the National Building Agency at the request of Dublin Corporation, are part of an overall contract for a scheme of 616 houses and 120 three-storey flats. Work on this scheme was commenced in September, 1969, and to date all the houses and five blocks, comprising 30 flats, have been completed and handed over to Dublin Corporation. Fifty-four flats are in course of construction. The date for the completion of this contract is October, 1973. The question of proceeding with the balance of the flats is under review by the corporation.
