Vol. 267 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Salmon Licences.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will indicate the number of cases where two or more salmon licences have been issued by the Letterkenny Fishery Board, County Donegal to members of the same household.

The salmon licensing control arrangements which were introduced in 1973 do not limit the number of salmon licences which a board of conservators may issue to members of the same household, and the information sought is not available.

In view of the fact that there are regulations governing this matter, did the Parliamentary Secretary make any inquiries to find out if the rule—one house, one licence — is being applied? Does he not care whether the regulation is being applied?

If the Deputy listened to the reply he would have the answer to his supplementary question. The salmon licensing control arrangements which were introduced in 1973 do not limit the number of salmon licences which a board may issue to members of the same household. There is no such regulation in existance and this being the case, the regulation cannot be broken. Possibly it is not desirable. In the Letterkenny board area the information is that two or more licences were issued to members of the same household in 1973.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary say licences were issued?

Two or more licences were issued to members of the same household. We have not information on other households. In the Foyle area a household cannot qualify for more than one licence.

I am calling Question No. 34.
