Vol. 268 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consultative Council on General Medical Practice.

9.

asked the Minister for Health when the report of the Consultative Council on General Medical Practice will be published.

I have received the report of the Consultative Council on General Medical Practice. Pending consideration of the report by the Government, no decision has been taken regarding its publication.

Is publication contingent on approval of the report by the Government and, in the event of the Government rejecting the report, will that mean that it will not be published?

The report will be sent to Departments concerned—for example, the Department of Education —and, when it is cleared through the Departments concerned, it will be submitted to the Government, which is the normal procedure, for decision as to whether or not it should be published. Without making any commitment, and having read more than half of the report, I cannot see any objection to its publication. I am talking now in a personal capacity. Publication of all such reports is a matter finally for decision by the Government.
