Vol. 268 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow's Pension.

4.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a contributory widow's pension has not been sanctioned in respect of a person in County Cork (details supplied) although she has submitted evidence, in the form of a press cutting, of her husband's death.

A claim for a widow's contributory pension cannot be traced as having been made by or on behalf of the person named by the Deputy. The Press cutting referred to was received in my Department on the 6th September, 1973, in connection with a claim to death grant which was made by the person concerned on the 28th August, 1973. Arrangements have been made to treat the claim for death grant as a claim for widow's contributory pension and a pension order book is in the course of issue to the claimant.

The claim to pension seems to have been mislaid. If the applicant applies again will the claim be allowed back to last June? The lady was held up awaiting the issue of a death certificate.

If the Deputy will leave this matter with me I will communicate with him.
