An application made in 1960 by 13 riparian owners for grant aid towards the improvement of a stream in the Ballyvouskil area was investigated but was rejected on the ground that the cost of the proposed works would be out of proportion to the meagre benefits which could accrue to a relatively small area. The situation has not changed significantly in the meantime and the expenditure of a relatively large sum of public money to achieve only small marginal benefit would not be justified.
