I understand that the Higher Education Authority have undertaken a study of the need for and the feasibility of establishing a facility in this country of the open university type, and propose to furnish me with their advice in the matter as soon as possible.
It may be that the committee which have been examining the whole question of provision for adult education and whose final report I expect later this year will include amongst their recommendations proposals for the greater use of radio and television in the promotion of higher and second chance education.
I will not be in a position to make a statement in the matter until I have first received and considered the advice to be tendered to me by these two bodies.
