Vol. 268 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extradition Laws.

89.

asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to introduce legislation to amend the laws regarding extradition.

Is the Minister aware of the anxiety of the people in the country concerning any alteration of the laws, particularly as it has been proved by investigation in the Six Counties that the application of justice there is one-sided.

(Cavan): If there was any such anxiety and if the Deputy listened to my answer he would know now that there is no need for any further anxiety.

Following the statement of Mr. Whitelaw at the Conservative Party Conference has any representation been made by the British Government to the Irish Government on this matter?

(Cavan): That is a separate question.

The Minister's "no" excludes that.

(Cavan): I have answered “no” to the question to ask the Minister for Justice if he proposes to introduce legislation to amend the laws regarding extradition.

Mr. Whitelaw's brainwashing does not apply then?

(Cavan): The Deputy has enough embarrassment on that side of the House without dragging out this particular matter.

I am very pleased with the answer given by the Minister.
