The question of any alteration in the amounts of the personal allowances and reliefs for tax purposes is a budgetary matter and the Deputy will understand that I cannot indicate at this time what next year's budget may or may not contain. I would, however, draw the Deputy's attention to the fact that in the Finance Act, 1973, the wife's earned income allowance was raised from £74 to £104 at an estimated full year cost of £850,000.
