Vol. 268 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Servicing of Houses.

121.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that some houses are not being serviced with electricity due to the fact that since the wiring of the houses was not performed by members of a trade union, the ESB has refused to provide the service; and since this asocial decision has caused inconvenience and hardship, if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the ESB that it is not that the board refused to connect houses to the electricity supply but that some electricians employed by the board refused to connect supply to premises where the installation work had been carried out by non-union personnel.

I understand that an agreement in the matter has been reached in discussions between the board and the men's union.
