Hydrological surveys are carried out on a national basis by the Office of Public Works arising from their arterial drainage activities. The amount spent in the past five years upon the provision, maintenance and operation of gauges, meters, et cetera, for ascertaining the extent and velocity of river flows and on comprehensive surveys of certain river catchments was as follows:

The provision for the current year is £47,300.
