I move:
That the Ceann Comhairle direct the Clerk of the Dáil to issue his Writ for the election of a member to fill the vacancy which has occurred in the membership of the present Dáil consequent on the election as President of Deputy Erskine Childers, a member for the constituency of Monaghan.
Are we to take it that the announcement, made today by the Minister for Transport and Power on behalf of the Minister for Local Government indicating that the by-election will be held before the end of this month, is a statement of fact?
