asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in relation to the proposed amendments to the superannuation scheme for manual workers in Bord na Móna which was submitted by the Board to his Department for sanction on 11th July, 1973, whether there are any unusual departures from the type of scheme hitherto operated in Bord na Móna; if so, if he will identify the special provisions; and if he will state the reason for the delay in meeting the group of unions and in sanctioning the scheme.

In accordance with the provisions of section 6 of the Turf Development Act, 1963 Bord na Móna submitted to me on 11th July, 1973 the Turf Development Act, 1953 (Regular Works Employees) Superannuation (Amendment) (No. 4) Scheme for my approval.
There are a number of provisions in this scheme which are unusual departures in the context of the existing provisions of the Bord na Móna regular workers superannuation scheme and these are set out in my reply of 23rd October to the Deputy.
The amending scheme is being examined by my Department in consultation with the Department of Finance. When this examination is concluded shortly and before taking a decision, I shall be prepared to meet a deputation from the trade union.
