asked the Minister for Education his proposals for the provision in the future of adequate post-primary education for Thurles, County Tipperary.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Thurles Post-Primary Education.
Mr. R. Burke
Discussions have taken place with the interested parties on proposals that the future organisation of the educational facilities should be on the following basis: (a) the Presentation and Ursuline Orders jointly to take responsibility for the education of all the girls in the area; (b) a new school to be jointly managed by the Christian Brothers and the Vocational Education Committee to be erected to cater for the education of the boys in the area.
These proposals are still the subject of discussion with the interested local parties.
Had the Minister had any communication with the Christian Brothers or the vocational school representatives since last April? I understand they were expecting to hear from the Minister at that time and that he indicated he would be in a position to give them some information. Has he had any discussions with them in the meantime?
Mr. R. Burke
At the request of the Superior of the Christian Brothers School, I have arranged to receive a deputation on the 14th.
Does the Minister appreciate that both the Christian Brothers School and the Vocational School are in a bad way and something must be done immediately?
Mr. R. Burke
I am fully aware of the difficulties in this area.
