Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Housing.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ascertain from Kerry County Council the number of local authority houses they intend to build under the group scheme in Killorglin, the preparations that have been made to commence building and when construction is expected to begin.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with Kerry County Council the erection of at least 60 local authority houses in the group scheme in Killorglin as many capable factory workers at present working in England are needed there but cannot bring their families with them due to lack of suitable accommodation.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with Kerry County Council to have a further group scheme of houses erected in Godfrey Park, Milltown, as this would facilitate the industrial workers in Killorglin.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58, 59 and 60 together.

It is a matter for the housing authority to decide the number of local authority houses to be provided in Killorglin and Milltown.

At the request of Kerry County Council, the National Building Agency are preparing plans for 34 local authority houses and some private sites at Killorglin. They hope to invite tenders for the scheme next month. The scheme will also include six houses for industrial workers at the request of the Industrial Development Authority. I understand that the authority were satisfied that the six houses would be sufficient to meet the demand for industrial houses. The county council will be inviting tenders shortly for nine local authority houses in Milltown. At their request, the agency are preparing plans for the development of a six-acre site at Milltown, which may include provision for houses for industrial workers. The need for such houses in Killorglin and Milltown will be kept under review by the authority and the agency.
