Vol. 269 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drug Abuse.

22.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to treat drug abusers.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply dated 10th May, 1973 to a similar Parliamentary Question asked by him in connection with the treatment of drug abusers.

On the 10th May the Minister said that the Eastern Health Board had been asked to prepare detailed proposals in the matter. Has this been done?

I did not hear the Deputy.

The Minister referred to Jervis Street and Usher's Island.

It is not in order to quote at Question Time.

I did not intend to quote. The Minister asked for clarification.

The Deputy may not quote. I have advised the Deputy in that matter.

The Minister said in his reply that he had asked the Eastern Health Board to prepare certain detailed programmes for him. I am asking has this been done.

Improvements have been made and further improvements are proposed in respect of Dundrum where there will be additional places for certain people about whom the Deputy is concerned.

I am aware of the improvements in Dundrum. They were started before the change of Government. Can the Minister tell me whether there have been any new proposals in the last six months?

Yes. Tenders in connection with a new unit at Jervis Street have been considered by the Department. A decision has been made and it is intended that work will commence in the near future.
