Vol. 269 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development Projects.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if Bord Fáilte has submitted any recent recommendations to him on future investment in development projects; and, if so, if he will make a statement in regard to them.

The present major resort development scheme, which was inaugurated in 1959 and which has been operated by Bord Fáilte, is expected to be completed by 1975. The board are at present formulating future policy in relation to development projects, and I understand that they will be submitting plans for future development in this field for my approval during the course of the coming year.

They will be sending plans to the Minister but Bord Fáilte state that they have no funds available for amenity grants. When will funds be made available to them?

The amenity grant fund at present being spent has nothing to do with the major resort development scheme. That is a different project altogether. That was a once only grant. It was made clear to Bord Fáilte and to the people to whom it was given that it was a once only scheme and would not be repeated in future years. It is different from the one referred to in Deputy Gibbons's question.

When will funds be made available to Bord Fáilte for both types of project for the coming year?

I could not say. That is a budgetary matter. I would have to wait to see what plans Bord Fáilte put up to me and what they will cost. They have not put anything before me yet.

I take it the Minister will be in a position to alter or reject those plans?
