Vol. 269 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin College of Technology.

14.

asked the Minister for Education if he has examined the submission on accommodation made by the students of Bolton Street College of Technology, Dublin; and whether he is prepared to implement immediately any of the recommendations.

Mr. R. Burke

I have studied the report concerning accommodation and other matters which was prepared by members of the students' union at Bolton Street College, Dublin, and which they submitted to me recently.

The report should properly be submitted for examination by the vocational education committee in the first place since they are the authority with primary responsibility for the matters raised in the report. It would be inappropriate for me, therefore, to comment on the report until the committee have had an opportunity of examining it.

The Deputy will be aware from my reply of 28th November last to his recent question concerning accommodation problems at the college that the committee are, in fact, already investigating ways of relieving the situation. I am advising the students that they submit their report to the committee so that their thinking in the matter can be taken into account by the committee during the course of their investigations.

I wish to take this opportunity to say that the proposals concerning accommodation which will be submitted by the vocational education committee in due course will receive the most urgent consideration by my Department.

Question No. 15 postponed.
