Vol. 269 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Book Issue.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in issuing an old age pension book to a person (name supplied) in County Meath whose retirement pension book was withdrawn nine weeks ago and who has received no money since; and if he will indicate when the new pension book will be issued.

Retirement pension was in payment up to 3rd October last when the last weekly order in the pension book was cashed. Due to a clerical error, a renewal book payable from 4th October, 1973 inadvertently did not issue to the pensioner. Renewal book and a payable order in respect of all arrears of retirement pension due were issued on 3rd December.

While receiving retirement pension, claimant applied for old age contributory pension. The rate of old age contributory pension for which he would qualify, however, was the same as the rate of retirement pension to which he was entitled and, consequently, pensioner was informed on 26th November, 1973 that it would be no advantage to him to transfer from retirement pension.
