Vol. 269 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo National School.

31.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Fahy national school, Westport, County Mayo, is in a bad state of repair; and the steps he proposes to take to remedy the position.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if funds are being made available in the current estimates (a) to reconstruct Fahy national school, Westport, County Mayo, and (b) to provide water and sewerage facilities for the school.

Mr. R. Burke

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 31 and 32 together.

It has been decided to have a scheme of improvements, including the installation of water-flushed sanitation, carried out at Fahy national school, and the necessary arrangements will be put in hands without delay. It is not the custom to relate particular primary school building projects specifically to the overall annual allocation for school building in any particular year. I have no reason to believe at this stage, however, that when the necessary preliminary arrangements in this case have been completed, the execution of the project will be delayed through lack of grant funds.

Can the Minister indicate when the work is likely to commence?

Mr. R. Burke

I have not been furnished with any information that would indicate when the work is to commence.
