In reply to a previous question I have indicated that the Government favour removing political restraints on civil servants which are not necessary to protect the public interest. The practical application of this principle to the various categories of civil servants is under active consideration and I expect the matter to be resolved in the near future. Discussions will then be resumed with staff interests under the conciliation and arbitration scheme for the Civil Service.
