asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of salmon planted last year; and the rivers or lakes involved.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it in the Official Report.

The above figures relate to plantings arranged by the Fisheries Division of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Other agencies such as the ESB and Mallow Hatchery carried out their own plantings. Details of latter plantings are not available.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give the latest figures from the report and those for ten years ago, for comparison purposes?

Even the total number.

The figure would be fairly high. There were 50,000 in Clare/Galway, 42,000 in Blackwater and so on. There were 200,000 in the Erne, 200,000 in the Barrow and so on.
