Vol. 270 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Lead Content.

79.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is satisfied that Irish petrol distributors will be able to comply with the EEC directive which requires that the lead content of petrol will not exceed 0.40 grammes per litre by January, 1976.

80.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he intends to introduce regulations whereby the lead content of petrol will not exceed 0.40 grammes per litre by January, 1976.

With your permission a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 79 and 80 together.

No directive of the type referred to has been adopted by the European Communities. A proposal for such a directive was submitted to the Council towards the end of last year but this will, presumably, now be considered in the light of the present energy situation. If and when the directive is adopted the question of compliance with it will be considered.

Will the Irish petrol companies be able to comply with this regulation?

They are within it already.

The remaining questions will appear on next Tuesday's Order Paper unless written replies are requested.
