Vol. 270 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Doctors Fees.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of doctors who have applied to the National Prices Commission for permission to increase their fees, distinguishing between family doctors and consultants: and the maximum fees that those family doctors are now permitted to charge (a) at surgery and (b) on domiciliary visits (i) during their normal 40-hour week (ii) during night time and (iii) any other time.

Since the introduction of the first Prices and Charges (Notification of Increases) Order in November, 1972, nine doctors, all general practitioners, have notified me of their intention to increase their fees for routine consultations and domiciliary visits. In each case I have indicated, on the recommendation of the National Prices Commission, that I would raise no objection to the increases proposed—to £1.50 for surgery consultations and £2 for domiciliary visits. The applications did not relate to any particular hours of attendance.

The maximum fees which may be charged by doctors are not prescribed under prices regulations.
