I do not propose to impose any specific requirements in relation to sparkling wines.
The Council of the EEC are however at present considering the making of regulations relating to sparkling wines. When made these regulations will be binding on all member states, although they will mainly affect the member states who produce sparkling wines.
Has the Minister's attention been drawn to newspaper reports that there are sparkling wines allegedly on the Irish market which bear no relation to wines?
I have seen these references from time to time but I think the question of regulations at European level is coming forward. We will play our part when they do.
