Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda School Accommodation.

61.

asked the Minister for Education the plans he has for the provision of increased accommodation for primary school pupils in St. Mary's, Drogheda, County Louth.

Mr. R. Burke

My Department has approved the provision of three prefabricated classrooms at St. Mary's Boys National School to meet immediate needs. It is further proposed to extend the existing permanent accommodation by five permanent classrooms.

The provision of two prefabricated classrooms at St. Mary's Convent (Fatima) National School has also been approved. It will be necessary in the long term to acquire a new site to accommodate a new 16 classroom girls school to replace the existing building and to cater for future development.

Can the Minister give me any idea as to when it is likely that the new school will be built?

Mr. R. Burke

The manager was advised on 10th July, 1973 to commission his own architect to provide three additional prefabricated classrooms. A report has recently been received from the inspector in which he recommends proceeding with the provision of these prefabs and, if feasible, to plan a permanent five roomed extension to the present school building. That is in reference to St. Mary's, Drogheda, County Louth.

I am concerned with the whole parish.

Mr. R. Burke

The other is No. 8052 and a grant for the provision of two prefabricated classrooms for this school was sanctioned on 1st May, 1973.
