Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

76.

asked the Minister for Education the plans his Department have for erecting a water reservoir to serve Boherbue Comprehensive School, County Cork.

Mr. R. Burke

The question of providing an adequate water supply to Boherbue Comprehensive School is the subject of correspondence between my Department and Cork County Council.

77.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that parents of children attending Ballinagree National School, County Cork, are anxious that the school be retained; and if he will accede to their wishes.

Mr. R. Burke

The feasibility of replacing Ballinagree National School and the two other schools in the parish of Aghina by a new central school has been under consideration by my Department for some time. I believe that a new central school would be in the best educational interests of all the children and my Department would gladly co-operate with the school manager in arranging for the provision of such a school on a suitably located site.

I will not, however, press the issue of the amalgamation of the three schools until there is general agreement with the proposal.

78.

asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the proposed new primary school at Ballingeary, County Cork.

Mr. R. Burke

My Department are still awaiting documentary evidence of title to the site of the proposed new central school at Ballingeary, County Cork. When this is available, a grant towards the cost of the school will be sanctioned.
