In the normal course statistics of this kind which relate to just one of a whole range of summary offences would not be available and I would not feel justified in asking the Garda Síochána to compile the figures. As it happens, however, the Garda have the figures for this particular offences for the period indicated.
A total of 1,241 prosecutions have been or are being taken by the Garda for breaches of the general speed limit of 50 miles per hour detected between 24th December, 1973, when it was introduced, and 28th February, 1974.
