The scheme for the implementation of EEC Directive 160 on Encouragement to Leave Farming is almost ready and I expect to be able to announce its introduction very shortly. An explanatory leaflet outlining the main provisions of the scheme is now available and may be obtained from the Land Commission. Deputies will be aware that the scheme has already been publicised in a comprehensive Press release issued by me on 15th of last month.
The debate on the Estimates for my Department will provide a suitable opportunity for the House to discuss the scheme.
Would the Minister tell us in respect of people who are renting land under the scheme whether they will be doing so at a flat rate or whether it will be plus and minus over a period?
I have not got the information.
