Vol. 271 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational School Job Training.

52.

asked the Minister for Labour if AnCO have any proposals to further the extended use of vocational schools for off-the-job training or for the provision of training concurrent with on-the-job training.

Colleges and schools of the vocational education system already provide facilities for apprentices on day and block release courses. During last summer short industrial induction courses were run for 1,500 unemployed trainees in 58 vocational schools throughout the country. It is planned to repeat these courses in 1974.

Consultations are proceeding with the education authorities on the necessary expansion of training facilities to allow for further development of the Training for Individuals programme and also in relation to the increase in apprentice off-the-job training proposed in the discussion document "Apprenticeship, a New Approach".

It is proposed to send trainees to vocational schools and colleges for suitable training courses which it does not provide in its own training centres.
