Vol. 271 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scarcity of Consumer Goods.

68.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his Department have facilities for investigating the scarcity, real or artificial, of consumer goods and for informing the public of the findings.

The resources of my Department have been adequate for investigating any shortages of consumer goods—excluding items such as oil products which are not my responsibility—which have occurred in recent times. Shortages have been limited both as to their duration and the areas affected and have quite quickly been remedied. The need for issuing a public statement on them has not arisen, but of course I should be ready to publicise the findings of an investigation should the need to do so arise in future.
