Vol. 271 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old People's Dwellings.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider increasing the grants payable to local authorities and private bodies in respect of the provision of dwellings for old people.

In so far as private housing is concerned the position is that grants under the Housing Acts are under constant review. With regard to local authorities, the Government decision of 29th March, 1973, effectively means that the State subsidies for the provision and maintenance of their rented dwellings, including dwellings for elderly persons, have been increased, from 1st April, 1973, to meet the full cost of all such dwellings now being provided, less any rental income received.
