Vol. 272 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Secretaries Payment.

73.

asked the Minister for Education when an allowance will be made to vocational schools for the purpose of paying school secretaries.

Mr. R. Burke

Representations received from the Association of Headmasters of Vocational Schools in relation to secretarial services for these schools are under consideration in my Department. Pending completion of the necessary inquiries I am not in a position to make a statement in regard to the matter.

Can the Minister indicate when these inquiries will be completed? Would he agree that headmasters, particularly creative headmasters, are seriously hampered and have to spend a lot of time at routine work because of this lack of secretarial assistance?

Mr. R. Burke

I agree that there is a strong lobby from the Association of Headmasters of Vocational Schools. The matter is receiving current attention.

When does the Minister think his inquiries will be completed?

Mr. R. Burke

I am becoming more and more reluctant to put time limits. I would say perhaps in a matter of a couple of months.
