Vol. 272 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Officers Pay.

86.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will relate the pay of senior Garda officers to the pay of employees of semi-State bodies, senior civil servants or local authority officials

Garda pay was the subject of a comprehensive review by the Conroy Commission, which reported in January, 1970, and the pay of all ranks was increased in accordance with the commission's recommendations.

Pay rates of ranks up to chief superintendent level have subsequently been increased under agreements reached with the respective Representative Bodies through the negotiating machinery established under the Garda Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme. The pay of the commissioner ranks has, in the same period, been increased commensurately with the pay of other ranks.
