Members of religious orders who, on their retirement from national schools, fulfil the requirements in regard to age and length of pensionable service, qualify for pension. Pensionable service in this connection is recognised teaching service in an approved post in a national school, in respect of which personal salary is paid to the holder of the post.
In relation to secondary and comprehensive teachers a voluntary contributory pension scheme is in operation. All registered teachers, whether lay or religious, who retire as members of the scheme and who fulfil the requirements in regard to age and length of pensionable service, qualify for pension.
All permanent whole-time teachers, whether religious or lay, employed by vocational education committees are pensionable.
