Vol. 272 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Solicitors' Apprentices.

85.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the difficulty which law students have in obtaining places as solicitors' apprentices due to the restrictions imposed by the Incorporated Law Society; and if he will make representations to the society in the matter.

Requirements for entry to the solicitors' profession are prescribed by the Incorporated Law Society. The society are an autonomous body and do not require the approval of the Minister for Education for regulations adopted by them.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Minister has already stated he would use his influence to try to bring some reason into the demands of the Incorporated Law Society?

I am not so aware but I am sure the Minister endeavours to bring reason into all his transactions.
